Built 1900. Arson 4 Dec 1902. An arsonist claimed the bridge on December 4, 1902, by hauling a load of hay onto the bridge and igniting it. The arsonist(s) were probably among the residents of Friends Cove who opposed the turnpike’s control of the main local road and the tolls levied near the bridge.
The Lincoln Highway now spans above the site of the original covered bridge. More photos here.
